For the third year in a row, there will be a weekend retreat to Fairbridge, from 2pm onwards, Friday 23rd November, to noon on Sunday 23rd November. The exact cost will depend on how many people attend, but I'm anticipating it being between $70 and $100, including catering. The cottage sleeps 15, and has 5 bedrooms.

Yes, it is the weekend of the election, and the plan is to travel to Pinjarrra (10 minutes away) and place absentee votes on the Saturday morning.

The retreat is a chance to do nothing except write, and be surrounded by people who are writing too. You'll need to bring your laptop or PC, bedding, towels, clothing and snack food. Carpooling is available, so let me know if you need transport arranged. I'm pretty good at cooking around food allergies and preferences too.

If you've got general questions, feel free to post them here, or you can email me directly at chaosmanor(at)gmail(dot)com

Hi NaNoers

The loose plan had been to follow the same pattern as previous years, and have a middle of the night write in on the 31st of October, to launch NaNoWriMo, but I've had to discard that idea because of other commitments.

So, here's the info for the weekend write ins for the month.

Saturday, November 3rd. 2pm, at Fantastic Planet Bookshop, Shop 8, Shafto Lane, Perth. Shafto Lane runs between Hay and Murray Sts, opposite Cloisters Square. The shop phone number is 9481 8393, if you're having trouble finding the venue.

Saturday November 10th, 2pm. Same venue.

Sunday November 18th, 2pm. Same venue.

Saturday November 24th. 2pm. Same venue.

Bring a laptop, or pen and paper, and procrastinate or word duel with your fellow Nanoers.

first gathering

It's time to organise the pre-November gathering for Perth NaNoers.

2pm, Sunday 28th October. Dome Café. 149 James St. Northbridge. We'll be at the back of the café. Then, once the noise gets too much, we'll adjourn to Russell Square, to sit on the lawn.

Come along, pretend you've done some preparation for NaNo, tell the first-timers scary stories about impossible word counts, get some caffeine into you, and make the most of a Sunday afternoon without a word count.

It's late September, and time to start thinking about NaNoWriMo!

I'm municipal liaison again, and the very first thing I've organised is a cottage for a NaNo writers' retreat. This will be the third year that Perth NaNoers have shut themselves in a cottage at Fairbridge and written like crazy. Last year, we collectively wrote about 70 000 words.

The cottage is booked from 2pm Friday 23rd November to noon Sunday 25th November, with space for 15 people. Final price will depend on number of people attending, but I'm anticipating between $70 and $100 per person, including all the food.

I'll post more information later, but I wanted to let you all know the dates of the retreat well in advance.

Apologies to everyone not interested in BIAD

Dear Six of Quills people,

I have printed off the application form and will endeavor to get everybody's signatures this week. We'll also need the entry fee - and how about this year we actually try for sponsorship as well/instead of us all kicking in a sixth of the price? ;)

It looks like we will have exactly the same team as last year, with the difference that our illustrator will be able to stay the whole day.

26 May is only three weeks away... yay...

ETA: I have now made an LJ community for Six of Quills - Please join!

Book in a Day 2007

Attention Six of Quills members and other scribes.

So: we're doing Book in a Day again this year. Let's get things happening! I propose Saturday, 26th May as the day; same venue as last year. Anybody who's interested in being involved, leave your name. We need six (including me) plus at least one swift and talented illustrator.

Who's certifiable interested?
